April 22nd- April 28th 2012

Happy 32nd Birthday to Me!

For whatever reason I wasn't too excited for my birthday this year. The excitement seems to be fading each year. I am not sure why, but it is.
Ryan still made it special though. He decorated the house, had a couple gifts on the counter and made my current favorite Greek Yogurt Pancakes and fruit for breakfast. After breakfast I opened my gifts that he had set out. The girls gave me a book called Are You My Mother and he gave me a potted daisy and a gift certificate for one complete running outfit. Once we had gotten ready for the day, we picked up my mom and headed to Salt Lake Running Company. I ended up getting two new outfits and a new pair of shoes. Yay. I love new clothes!
After shopping we went to the Gateway. We went to look through a couple stores so my mom could grab a pair of shoes she had been wanting. While we were there, Kailee decided to pose with the mannequins and try on some shoes. My little fashion girl. She loves high heels and I despise them! Little Ellie just sat in the stroller as calm as could be.
We went to dinner at Tucanos and it was delicious! That is our new favorite place to go for special occasions! Yum!
When we got home, Ryans mom came up to celebrate with us for a few minutes since she happened to be in the area. They sang Happy Birthday to me and I blew out my candle that was in a Dairy Queen blizzard. 
Happy, Happy Birthday to me. I am thankful for a family to spend the day with to help make it special!







On Saturday I did the Pink Series 5k in Pleasant Grove. My first race ever. I was a little nervous not knowing what to expect. I was nervous wondering about how the race would start and even about what I should wear. When we arrived in Pleasant Grove, around 7:00am, it was soooo cold. I couldn't imagine running in capris and a short sleeve shirt. I didn't even want to get out of the car and wait in the freezing cold. I finally decided to put on my capris, long sleeve shirt and I left on my fleece jacket. I got on the first bus to take me to the start line and waited there in the freezing cold for an hour and a half. I spent most of the time walking in circles around the parking lot to try to keep warm. About 1/2 hour before the race started, Ryan and the girls came up to see me. That was a pleasant surprise. I was getting kinda bummed walking around in circles by myself, seeing all the other girls there with their friends and/or family. I started to feel bad for myself that I don't have anyone to do these things with me. But, I got over that when they came up to hang out with me. 
I can't help but laugh when I think about the start of the race. When the horn sounded, the girls just took off running. Running so fast. I probably seemed like a road block to the other girls, because they were all running past me so fast. I tried to keep up with them, but decided I had better slow down. For one, I didn't want to fall on my face because it was a steep downhill at the beginning, but also because I wanted to be able to finish the race. I eventually got to a pace that I could handle and I felt good. Ryan and the girls met me at about 2 miles and that kept me going and even gave me a little more energy. I was really excited when I saw the finish line and tried to speed up a bit. When I crossed the finish line I couldn't find Ryan and the girls and figured they were in the crowds, but  I still couldn't see them. Then after a few minutes I saw them walking from the parking area. Apparently they had a hard time getting from where I saw them at mile 2 back to the finish line. So, I crossed the finish and they weren't there to witness it. Oh well. I saw them and they saw me on the course. Too funny. 
Overall, it was a fun race and I felt good about it. My time was 29:47 with a 9.45 min pace. And, I came in number 116- with the first half! Not bad for me. My personal best so far.
