Our little Ellie was born Tuesday October 5th at 5:27pm. She weighed 6lbs 4oz and was 20inches long.
The Dr told us at our regular weekly appt on Wednesday Sept 29th that he was going out of town on October 7th and said I would probably go into labor while he was gone. He asked if I wanted him to start labor before he left and of course I agreed because I didn't want the on call doctor to deliver the baby. He told us to come in the following Monday October 4th and he would see how far along I was and then decide what day to induce me. This kinda made me panic because my due date was October 23rd... I thought the baby would come a week early, but I never thought she could come any earlier. We went back to the Dr on Monday, I was at a 3 and he scheduled us to come in on Wednesday the 6th to be started. We spent the rest of the night running errands getting things for the baby. I spent the rest of the night saying I didn't want to be started and how I wanted the baby to come on her own.
I woke up around 7:30 Tuesday morning and called in to work to let them know I wouldn't be in. Around that same time I started to have contractions, but they weren't consistent so I didn't think anything of it. We got up and started our normal day... baths, breakfast, laundry and cleaning the house. Ryan suggested that we get ready and take a drive to Ikea so we could get a lamp for the baby, but I told him I didn't dare drive that far so we decided to just run errands at nearby stores. While I was working on the laundry and getting our bags packed for the hospital the contractions started to be more frequent. I told Ryan to get the things done that had to be done just incase we had to go to the hospital after running our errands. Around 10:30am we were ready and out the door.
The first stop I wanted to make was Tai Pan for some baskets to go under the bathroom sink (yes, I know, really neccessary to have before the baby arrived!). While at the store I started to time the contractions and realized they were only about 3 minutes apart and lasted about 30 seconds... I thought I was in active labor, but wasn't sure so I didn't say anything to Ryan and kept shopping! The next stop was Target to get some hangers for the baby's clothes and some drawer organizers. When we got to Target Ryan noticed how frequent the contractions were and how much pain I was in and he started to get really frustrated with me!! I knew he was right, but I really wanted to finish these few things before the baby arrived. We got in the car and I gave in. We dropped Kailee off at his moms house and we were off to the hospital.
We arrived at the hospital around 1:30pm. When they checked me I was at a 4 and the contractions were still coming every 2 to 3 minutes so they admitted me. The nurse that was helping me said they were doing construction right below my room and she kept apologizing for the noise. I thought that was funny because I didn't even notice it- probably because I was in labor and had other things on my mind! Around 2:00pm I had the first dose of pain meds and started to feel really great. The anesthesiologist came in shortly after that to discuss the epidural. He was SOOOOO frustrated with the noise and told, no, ordered the nurse to call downstairs to tell them to stop. He was so aggravated that they were making so much noise when he needed to communicate with his patient!! Again, Ryan and I thought it was funny because we didn't even notice it. I thought it was nice though because he wanted us to be comfortable and didn't want the noise to bother us. Around 2:30pm the epidural was in and I was feeling even better!! The poor anesthesiologist was still bothered with the noise so they rolled me onto another bed and took me to a different room! After about an hour in my new room I started to feel a little pain in my lower back so he gave me another dose of the epidural. Again, I was feeling really good! The doctor came in around 4pm... he told me he said he'd deliver the baby on Wednesday not Tuesday!! Haha! Wasn't that sweet of my little baby girl to fulfill my request to go into labor instead of being induced?! At 4:07pm the Dr broke my water and said I would probably deliver around 7 or 8pm. A little while after my water broke I started to have strong pains in the left side of my back and they would shoot around to my belly... so I got another dose of the epidural. After that dose, I REALLY couldn't feel anything. It felt as if the whole lower half of my body had fallen off. It was good because I couldn't feel any pain, but it felt weird and I didn't know what to think of feeling like that! The nurse checked me again around 5pm and said it was time to have a baby! We were really stunned because we were expecting to wait a few more hours. She called the Dr. and after pushing for 3 contractions our Ellie Violet was born at 5:27pm.
Ryans mom got there shortly after delivery and brought Kailee in to see her new little sister. That was one of the best moments ever!
